i'm back from cancun... what did i miss?

Cancun was awesome. just plain awesome. my first real vacation in 9 years...

we originally booked our stay at Xpu Ha Palace (pronounced Ess Poo Ha - means the Lagoon or something like that). Off the strip and as far away from the college kids as much as possible. The place was just okay. It was meant for a family retreat with wild animal parks in between the clusters of bungalows. Unfortunately, it is the raining season now and the place was infested with misquitoes. the place has pretty nice beaches and just okay restaurants, about 4 restaurants and about 3 or so bar/grills spread out. the bungalows are a cool idea, but its not for me. if they were on the beach like advertised, then i wouldn't mind at all... but the setting is a jungle setting. the animal parks had a croc pool, deer park, monkeys, jaguars, etc... everything is spread pretty far apart from one another so they used alot of golf carts to shuttle people around.

after the 2nd night, we had enough of Xpu Ha. We went over to Adventura Spa Palace and transfered over. This place is magnificient. IMO, its on the scale of the Bellagio in Las Vegas. Tile and marble everywhere. The theme of this place is a Spa. They gave us a presidential suite, which is about 1500 sq ft, has its own lobby, living room, dining room that seats 10, servents kitchen, wrap around balcony, 2 bedrooms, etc etc etc... its nicer then my first house.

the Palace resorts are all inclusive. we really didn't have to pay anything, not even tip. but we did because the service is so good. at the lunch buffets, the waiters take your plates back to your table for you. also, everyone's english is excellent and i mean excellent. they speak better then most high school kids in the usa. we had a couple's 3.5 hr massage session in one of the ocean huts that was just awesome.

we're part of the vip vacation club membership there now. the Palace resorts do have 3 other resorts on the main strip in Cancun. But like i said, i wanted to avoid the younger crowds and stayed off the strip. my next trip, i'll stay take the whole family to the Moon Palace and take another presidential suite.

anyways.. here's pics... with subsequent followup posts of more pics.

Nice pics! Glad you had a good time!

While you were gone:

1. The Supreme Court decided it was OK for a government to seize local property if it views it in the "better interest of the community."

2. The Spurs won the NBA title.
2a. The NBA and the Players Association agreed on a new bargaining agreement.

3. F1 fucked up ANY chance it ever had to win over the American market.

4. Tom was laid off after 12 years with Merryl Lynch.

5. Dr. Fred picked up his car in Munich.

6. JV plunked some money down for a new Charger SRT8 (or something like that)

7. CJ's been driving everyone in Spain crazy with comments like "did I tell you what happened when I tried to buy Xenons for my BMW?"

8. Maria Sharapova is once again showing that she's both gorgeous AND a good tennis player.

9. Most of us showed our desktops.

10. Two African Americans were killed in Jamaica, but we have not heard ONE single word of it because we're too fascinated with the pretty, blonde, 18 year old who disappeared in Aruba.

11. Bimmerfest (now called Bavarian Fest) East will be held in CT in August.

12. The French still suck.

Juan

we were lucky. we got upgraded for free when we transfered from Xpu Ha over to Adventura. Since then, I have signed up for a vacation club membership giving me included weeks and discount prices to any destination in the world. about $650 per week at any hotel in the world, $150 for any hotel in the usa, and discounted prices for any palace resort in cancun outlined below:

retail price on the presidential suite is about 900-1000 per night. my membership discount brings us to $4000 total for the 8day/7night deal when i do have to pay. otherwise, i use my included weeks from my membership price. so its about $8000 retail depending on the season and discounts they may be offering. there's only 24-30 pres suites there.

the other normal suite there is about $2000 for the 8day/7night deal at my price. otherwise its about $4000.

just pm me if you want more details on the deal or get rates from my membership... it doesn't cost me anything more to extend the deals to my friends/family/etc...

Adam, great pics; looks foistclass.
Several trips there in the working days, holding sales "meetings" for the good producers, but it wasn't quite that lavish in the '90s.
Damn, ya'll look pretty hunky in your EstorilBlue sling!
I agree w/V-K: don't wait 9 freaking yrs for the next one...and, Juan should write for "The News Hour"!
Glad ya'll back safe and w/no Monte's Revenge. BR,md
