Malaysian Grand Prix - spoiler alert

Stop now if you haven't seen it yet and plan to. Otherwise, read ahead for results. I am not sure when it is being replayed elsewhere, I taped it at midnight Saturday (In HD, just because we can....)












Great race. McLaren is back. Alonso got the win he deserved, but the real story was Lewis Hamilton. This is definitely an up-and-comer to watch. Holding off the Ferrari of Kimi Raikkonen for the last part of the race, to take second, was great. Almost as good as jumping two spots at the start, from 4th to 2nd to pass two Ferraris by the end of the first corner. All that, and he set the fastest lap of the race on his second Grand Prix ever.

Massa made a silly error trying to pass Hamilton, but Kimi drove a good race. And Heidfeld got BMW a fourth place spot!

Go McLaren!

Hamilton was nothing short of brilliant! It wasn't just impressive how he overtook the two Kimi and Massa, but was just as terrific to watch him fend of Massa those first two laps...all too well. It made me chuckle when he said he 'tricked Massa' into running off. I still maintain that Massa is only good in time trials like practice and qualis..when there isn't another car close to around him. Too bad about Kimi's engine difficulties- I think it would've been real entertainment to see him go after Hamilton the whole race, like he did at the end.

As far as Honda goes, it was very bad and sorta good. Barichello got the shaft during qualis, but got to 11th from last..not bad. He called his car 'crap' which isn't far-fetched. Some interesting/excellent news is that Nick Fry/Honda is talking to Ross Brawn about joining. How amazing would that be..

Yes, that dig was just for you. Not only HD, but on TSN, which beats Speed for commentators, as they don't sound like they all just wandered over from the Charlotte Motor Speedway

I don't mind the Speed guys too too much. Funny thing is, they do sorta sound like what you describe, esp considering all but one are Brits/Auzzies . I like them though, they're pretty casual so it's fun listening...just a bunch of guys watching F1.

great race and great pass in the beginning by Alonso and Hamilton. Massa needs to calm down a little.. he made the same mistake twice... My personal thought on this was the Fcars ran too much of a wing. As for the engine cooling issue with Kimi, what can you do with a track temp of 135 degrees.. It's a miracle of engineering that these motors can sustain such temps spinning at 20K rpm.

forreal...just look at the spyker car that got caught in 1st..by the time it came back it was one fire. these guys get worried too if they get caught up in pit lane...no airflow.

I agree about Hamilton, I told a buddy who was watching the Masters about the race and what a great job Hamilton did...especially in the 1st 5 laps when he was fending off Massa. I am an F1 fan again due in large part to Schumy retiring, I found it very boring watching Ferrari win almost every race for the last few years...BTW what the hell is up with BMW and Kubica's ride....mechanical failures galore!
