Apple's Leopard Delayed until October

"For once, the rumor mill was right: Apple will be delaying Leopard, the next release of Mac OS X, until October.

The company said in a statement Thursday that because of the push to get the iPhone out by June, it had to pull engineers from the Leopard development effort and reassign them to the iPhone. As a result, Leopard won't be finalized until later this year, and only a preview version will be available at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference in June.

"While Leopard's features will be complete by then (June) , we cannot deliver the quality release that we and our customers expect from us. We now plan to show our developers a near final version of Leopard at the conference, give them a beta copy to take home so they can do their final testing, and ship Leopard in October," Apple said in a statement."

That's a drag. I think they would have more computer customers than iPhone customers....but at least they'll have more time to work out the kinks/bugs etc.

Thats terrible. I was waiting to get a macbook because leopard was coming out, I guess ill just go ahead and get one.

It's another clever way for Apple to promote the iPhone, I think

After all, nobody is complaining about Tiger O/S anyway. Apple knows that nobody is jumping ship (to Windoz) because of the delay.

My Cingular Treo 650 is now on month-to-month contract so I am all set for the iPhone the first hour it's available.

Actually, I am glad I waited because now the MacPro Desktop has an 8-core processor option (dual quad core processor).

You know, 8 is such a lucky number vs. 4!!
