I might have to do something drastic.

I've been thinking about doing something I didn't want to think about. I'm thinking about selling the Boxster. I didn't want to do it until next year when I'd be freeing up money to buy the E90 M3 but I might have to do it now. Actually, I don't know if I have to do it but I think it might be wise. I'm not driving it that much, probably 4 or 5 times a month, I haven't tracked it in a while. I'm motivated mostly by money, as in needing some. I'm not on the verge of starving or losing my house but some liquidity would be nice to have. I'm planning on building a pool and spa at the new house so that's where the money will go.

I know that it's probably the smart thing to do. It's not like I couldn't ever get another or I won't have a cool car since I'll still have my X5. I also still plan on the E90 M3 or the Audi RS4 so a fast car is still in my future. It's just difficult to part with such a fun toy. It's still nice to go out to the garage and see it sitting there and it's nice to know that I can drive my practical X5 or my fun roadster. I love having such different vehicles to drive depending on my mood.

I don't know if I can be talked out of selling it but I haven't made up my mind 100% yet. What do you think?

It'a all about priorities - only YOU can figure out what yours are - Personally, having a boxster around for when you are in the "mood" 4-5X a month seems not to be high up on the list. - But then again, if I could fit in one, I may feel different.

DON'T DO IT KEVIN...

COME JOIN ME AT THE TRACK !!!!

In all seriousness though, if you need the $$$ for a pool, it is understandable. And, it will give you something to look forward to when the M3/RS4 comes out.

But remember, you can't drive a pool, nor can you swim in a Porsche

Good luck with you decision..

Sell it. You're not getting your money's worth, and the money will be invested in your house -- which raises in value. Like you said, you will get your M3 or the Audi, so you will still have a "toy."

Kevin, it sounds like you have prioritized the pool over the car. IMHO that sounds like the thing to do. When I had to sell my ///M3, man it was soooo tough.
I was starting a new business and needed the cash to get a truck and invest in the business. My only reservation was will the next owner take care of my baby. I got lucky...I still see the ///M3 once a week or so. My neighbor that lives directly behind me purchased it from me. Life really is short, so some times we have to make tough decision in a matter of minutes. Sounds like you have the time to think about it. Like you said, you can go and purchase another fast car...............Good luck..............Phil

Sell the car. Getting the pool and everything else that goes with it is something that you will use a lot more than driving the car. A car is just a car. It's just nuts and bolts. They're making new ones every day. Your house and your property are different. That's a part of your wealth. The house is not a toy, it is not a "by the way item", it better reflects who and what you are than a car.

Sell the car and invest in your home. You can use the equity gained to purchse the E90 M3. You can't lose.

Well...except the Boxter

I'd sell it... I'd love to have a Boxster, but if you aren't using it that much then what's the point? Plus, an M3 or an RS4 is still going to be a blast to drive, and having a pool/spa would be great! I'm trying to convince my parents to build an indoor pool... Unsuccessfully, I might add.

PNG/Kevin,
I tend to agree with theGang that is supporting the "sell side"...
While none of us can give specific advice to an individual on their
finance stuff, your rationale and perspective is pretty well thought out, imo.

If you really aren't driving it as much as you could/would, it's a daily depreciating asset that you can toss and always replace in some fashion in the future.

I've come to a point where I suspect "boyztoyz" are losing considerable luster for me, too. I love the VetteVert and like the X, but 3 cars and 4 M'cycles have become a maint.schedule task that I really don't need.

I may off one or more of my M'cycles pretty soon as I find I ride any/all of them Less now than when I worked...and yet I live in some of The finest M'cycle riding country east of the Rockies, and have considerable "time" compared to when I was tied to the whipping post.

NEway, back on Topic, but if you are looking for another "hand up" from the Peanut Gallery, I'd vote for supporting your decision to toss the Box, spend it on your home and see what car plucks your heartstrings further down the road. GL,md
