More Gov't "at work"...

Protecting us, you know...not my usual newspaper read,
but an interesting snippet and a follow up, that smacks
of the ever increasing control the gov't exerts on one's
life, imo.

And,
Feds eye control of vitamins, supplements – even water!
FDA looks to regulate natural substances as drugs, with prescriptions from doctors

http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/ar...TICLE_ID=55370

Couldn't find anything in the NewYawkTimes about this...
The FDA was trying to sneak it in under the radar with Public Opinion
ending April 30th, lol! Now, extended.

Hope ya'll got your stock of bottled water and Centrum Vitamins.

But don't we want the government to regulate vitamins, herbs, alternative therapies (things like hot stone therapy), even down to juices and holy water?

I know It might mean having to go to a doctor or medical professional for vitamins. but it might be better keeping govt officials busy doing this than finding a war to fight

Are you sure? I'll bet they were involved somehow. After all it is the Federal govt.

In theory, yes. But what has happened in recent years is that the top people at the FDA are mostly current and former board members of major drug companies. The FDA has become a joke just like the Defense Policy Board. Instead of being a regulatory body, they have become a lobbying organization for the drug companies within the federal government.

Obviously the existance of such "alternative" and natural therapies hurts drug sales as people who take them tend to be healthier, and some people who are sick will choose the alternative therapy instead of drugs.

The fear I have is that if they get their hands on things like vitamins, is that they will eliminate such things from the market entirely. There will be a study or perhaps several that shows that such things are actually unhealthy, and they will be banned from the marketplace. I suppose such a prediction is quite extreme, but living in this country the last few years, nothing is beyond possibility.

This is an interesting story. I honestly bellieve that anything that claims to 'cure' a person should be regulated. If someone sells Tomato Juice and says that it cures cancer (Tomatos have been found to reduce the risk of prostate cancer) and someone chooses to drink tomato juice based on this information rather that go through medical treatment - then in my mind there is a issue. I don't think the FDA should regulate Vitamins and such, but they SHOULD regulate anything and anyone that makes claims to cure people.

With that said - do I believe the FDA is perfect, No. However, they are better than letting rouge suppliment and alternative medicine companies sell and market cures/fixes to the masses without any regulation, oversight or protection of the public.
