Need Life Help: Decision School/Work

For the last 2 years I have been making money selling on Ebay. I have a good business going and it pays my bills. When I did have a job I worked in the restaurant business and I don't think that will help me at all when it comes to getting a job with my degree. I need an office job (something I haven't had since 2003).

I am going to school and I am going to graduate soon. I have nothing to put on my resume except the office jobs I had in 2001-2003.

Should I graduate a year later and during this time find something to put on my resume?I don't care where I work or how much I make. I just want something to put on my resume.

I do better in school when I am not working, because I usually take 15-18 credits and go at it hardcore. This summer I am signed up for 15 credits. If I was to get a job I would have to cut back to 9-12 credits because my major is difficult for me. Where would I work? I can't do 9-5 because all the classes I want are from 9-5.

I don't know what to do. I have until tomorrow to decide because tomorrow is the start of the summer classes. I really want to get my degree, but I'm afraid just a degree is not going to help me at all.

My major is Finance with a minor in Accounting.

Seek an internship with the Government instead while going to school GAO or IRS ought to be right up your alley.

I'll warn you about stopping school: often times if you quit school to get a job, you'll have a hard time getting back into studying and "school" mode. For example, one of my uncles had a bachelors and thought that was enough, and got a job at a hospital. However after a few years, he needed a Master's to get promoted. He couldn't bring himself to quit his job and go back to school. Thus, he's kind of in a stalemate in his career.

Get work experience. Lot of seniors without any or sufficient experience have a tough time landing a job these days; seen it the last few years. I've taken off a couple semesters to work/intern and also summers. It is absolutely invaluable, not only in resume value but also the perspective it gives you. It'll also give you another dimension to look at your class material from. There just isn't a substitute for experience.

As JV mentioned, a part-time internship is a great way to go. Whichever route you go, make sure the work is in a relevant field to what you are studying.

Best of luck.
