Mac Users

I have a question and I hope you guys can help!

Word is about to expire real soon and I need to pay over $300 to have it renewed. Did you guys pay that? That seems high for just wanting to read a word document.

huh? It expires? I just get the MS Student Teacher Edition software pack. Word, Excel, PP, all for like $100. If you order online you dont have to show true "proof" of being in school or a teacher.

Or you can just go visit your friends who already have the disc, I'm sure they won't mind trying the disc on yours to see how it works on someone else Mac

Are you talking about Word or Microsoft Office. Just find a student and have one of them buy it. Then it's legit.

Here's a question for you mac users. I'm about to get a new Macbook and I need Microsoft Office. A family member is also buying a new Mac and also needs Office. Is it necessary to purchase 2 copies of Office or will one copy be sufficient. I know that legally we are supposed to have two copies, but does Microsoft Office for Mac work the same way as it does for Windows where it makes you register the serial number at their website?

This was the new arrangement as of 2003.

Under the new licensing scheme, anyone in a household with a qualifying teacher and student will be able to use the forthcoming version, Office Student and Teacher Edition 2003. Microsoft also plans to extend the license so that the product can be installed on up to three computers. In a third change, the license would not expire after a college student graduates. Finally, Office Student and Teacher Edition 2003 would be upgradeable later to another version of the suite. Consumers who bought the earlier version were not eligible to buy upgrades.

Mari, just download a "free" copy of NeoOffice. It has the ability to read and create documents, spreadsheets and presentations (powerpoint). I just downloaded it yesterday, and it works perfectly on my MacBook. If you decide later that you want more, wait until Office for Mac 2007 comes out later this year. It will be made for Intel based Macs, and you will be able to get it for ~$149 with the student discount.

Hope that helps. Send me a PM if it doesn't.

Plus if they show their student ID you then get 10% most stuff there. I am glad mine is still "valid."
