Well, I voted for 10 fingers (8 plus thumbs?) as I am a touch typist. I used to be over 100 wpm on an IBM Selectric, I am probably closer to 75 these days on a computer keyboard with little to no tactile feedback.

However, I don't quite understand the three options. How does one type with 10 fingers? I use 9, as the left thumb is not utilized as all. Is that just me? Do left handed people use their left thumb instead of their right thumb? Does anyone use both thumbs on the spacebar?

I use both thumbs. It depend on which hand is used for the key following the space bar...I use the opposite thumb to hit the space bar.

Eight fingers here, both thumbs on the spacebar.
I never was as fast as JCL, in my Typing 2 class I only got a 'B' with 82 wpm and less than 3 mistakes and that was on a really, really old manual.

Never noticed this until I read this post, but I seem to use the right index and right middle finger, and left index EXCLUSIVELY. The other fingers dont touch the keyboard at all (left thumb for spacing)...Maybe thats why my hands are always f*&#in' killing me!
