Hangnail of the Yankees?

Carl Pavano and his Pain Threshold

Is Carl Pavano the worst free agent signing in baseball history? One fan thinks so.

How long have you been a fan? Remember Don Gullett? Similar situation. They gave him big money (at the time) for a multi-year contract, and he pitched one season, then got hurt and never pitched again.

How about the Mets signing of Mo Vaughn. That one has to be up there on the list. Or Baltimore signing of Albert Belle. You never know when someone is going to get hurt.

Actually, the worst free agent signing was when Seattle signed Adrian Beltre after the 2004 season. In 2004, he was runner up to Barry Bonds in the MVP voting, batted .334, 48 HRs, 121 RBIs. So Seattle gave him $64 million for 5 years. In the 2+ years since then, he's batted around .250 and his highest HR output was 25 last year. Or how about when Texas signed Chan Ho Park. That's another one....no injuries, he just stinks.

up until recently, most Yankees fans were complaining about A-Rod, weren't they?

Yes, some were. But regardless of his recent performance, I think all Yankees fans know who they would want up in the bottom of the 9th with 2 outs and men on base in the post season, and his name is not A-Rod.

I don't hear Michelle saying anything about the Tigers' sweep of them last week!

The Yankees weren't swept by the Tigers last week. Are you talking about the Orioles?

But not for long, the way he's hitting. He's already lost his 1B job and is going to 3rd base to platoon with a rookie (Tony Abreau). Nomar's 33, but he's swinging the bat like he's 53.

If he doesn't break out of his slump soon, he might have to retire mid-season to avoid the embarassment of sitting on the bench.

He won't be missed the way Loney is swinging the bat. Loney = 35/120/.300 for the next 5-10 years.
