Govt continues to blow with FEMA

Don't be shocked when the next catastrophe is delayed in receiving help....

It's always about the money. Our government cannot just ever say they are going to do something and get it done. If they had been trying to go to the moon today, it would take 50 years.

Don't misunderstand - I carry no water for FEMA, but are you saying the contractors should be doing it for free?

Of course it's about money. This ain't no workers' paradise, after all.

No. I'm saying that instead of handing everything off to contractors and making this into a huge profit making scheme with lots of red tape and paperwork to go through, FEMA should be more directly involved in what is happening. There is no need to use "contractors" for this sort of thing. "Contractor" is a fancy name for "middle-man". FEMA should be acting as the main contractor and should be the ones directing everything the way NASA did in the 1960s when we were trying to get to the moon.

Yes, you will obviously still need contractors on some level, but the way it is being done now, there are multiple sets of middle-men on each kind of project, while FEMA sits back in Washington and does squat. No wonder nothing gets done down there. It's been 2 years, and from what I have heard from a friend of mine who travels there quite often on business, barely anything has been fixed.

What does "government environment" mean? I didn't know they have a different environment. If so, then make their environment like the private sector.

I don't care what the environment is like. I care that they get the job done without all our tax money being paid to a million middle men with no-bid inflated contracts. Or is that sort of thing necessary to create this wonderful "environment"?

Eric: I'm supprised you would even ask a question like this. "(What does "government environment" mean? I didn't know they have a different environment.)

Simple reply??? Hmmmmm lets see we have all this money we MUST spend or next fisical year they will cut our budget. So quick lets spend it as fast as we can. Then when we get the new money we can use that to put things back like they were. How many jobs have I done where money was literally thrown at projects for just that purpose. They are called "government" jobs.

I can't help you if you don't know what that means...just glad you don't make the calls.

This actually sounds like what is getting done with all these private contracts for the military. Perhaps if there was a motive to keep budgets low, then this would not happen. And no, someone does not need to be making a profit for that to happen.

This is kind of like the people who say the public school system is no good so we need to privatize it. How about just fix the problem.

Hey, Eric...that's actually one of your best lines yet!

And, maybe why "we" aren't going back, anytime soon.
