Need help from the computer experts

I've been having issues with my wireless connection. About 3-4 times everyday, I lose connection to my laptop and I can't figure out whether it's my laptop or my router. I have a Sony Vaio and I'm using the Netgear WGT624 v3. If I wait about 5-10 minutes, it reconnects itself, or if I unplug for a few seconds then re-plug the router, it will reconnect. Sometimes, a website will even kill my connection. I don't know what exactly I need to do to keep the connection from disconnecting. I'm using a 5.8ghz phone, so that shouldn't be the case and I don't have anything else that's at 2.4ghz that can be causing interference. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

you don't have anything that is 2.4GHz but your neighbors might!

Change the radio channel on the router and see if that helps. Also upgrade the firmware on the router and the wifi driver on the laptop.

If you know someone who has a USB or PCMCIA/ExpressCard wireless card, try disabling the internal wireless card and using that. That may help isolate whether it's the router or the laptop.

A friend who has a VAIO, had to go to PCMCIA card to connect reliably...

Mickey's advice is good too

Backup your router config before doing the firmware upgrade because it will likely be wiped out.

microwave ovens interfere with wireless also.

change the channel on your router to 11

Thanks guys.......changed the channel to 8 (it was on 11 originally). There is no other firmware update for the router and the drivers I have are currently the best match, according to windows. There are 6 or 7 other wireless routers in my area so maybe they have been causing the disconnection as well, although I don't have any of them in my preferred network list. Don't think it's the microwave because I get disconnected even if it's not on. Hopefully changing the channel helps. I'll see if I can find the pcmcia card that came with the router and see if it stays connected. Thanks again.
