ticket
Just got a call that my daughter got a ticket in Chatham on the NYS Thruway coming back from Cape Cod in the exact spot that I got one 5 years ago. She leaves the country on Monday. I wonder if NY has reciprocity with
Wales? If she blows it off, does the ticket reflect back to the owner of the car? Fred |

I don't think there is any reflection on the owner of the car. I do however think, if she wants to come back to the US at any point, she might want to pay her ticket.

I don't even think NY communicates that well with NJ.
My dad got a ticket in NJ about 15 years ago and he just blew it off. Then just last year, he moved to NJ and went to get a NJ license. Of course, then it came up in their computer, and he had to pay the fine plus some late fees. But all those years, it never affected his ability to renew his license in NY or register his car.

DocFred,
I rec'd paying it, (I'm assuming Pop is gonna pay it for Daughter, lol!) Unless she is expatriating to Wales, for good, she will be back in NY and that ticket will show up sooner or later on her situ: driver license renewal, new car registration, pulled over in future, etc., imo. GL,mD PS/Edit: as for NY/NJ not communicating, that may be; but, when we migrated to NC from NY and applied for my new NC license in late 2001, my one freakin ticket that I got back in NY, circa 1996, showed up on my "record" as I was processed through the NC system. The hillbilly clerk smiled at me as she viewed my app. (on which I neglected to list that ticket I had received), and corrected me in my forgotten history. Fwiw...I'd pay the damn thing.

And when the ticket shows up it will be followed, most likely, by a bench warrant since the ticket time will have expired, she will be asked to show for court, she will miss that, then asked again, then miss it again, then the next time a cop pulls her over...say hello to the cuffs.

Well, she is getting married and living in wales and getting a british drivers license eventually. Her American one is good in UK for one year. I was thinking that when she does come home to visit the old folks and is possibly pulled over here-she will just show her British drivers license which will be under her new married name. Of course David if "she" does decide to pay
it, it will be my check. I thought that when they get out of college they start paying for things. I noticed a $600 charge on my Amex from GEICO and I don't use GEICO. My 27 year old son has my AMEX for emergencies and apparently his car insurance was an emergency. Apparently his funds are for rock concerts. When will it end? Fred |

drfred, just for the sake of keeping the slate clean I'd go ahead and pay the ticket. No sense in leaving that open to come back to haunt your daughter, or you, later on.

think the 'Rents need to know about. It never "ends"...it just tapers off until some major crap hitting the fan event down the road in their 20s or 30s or... I still say pay it so Daughter is "clean" in NY. The few hundred bucks is worth "no wants/no warrants" status, imo. Besides, whatya gonna do with all your dough? That's what Kidz are for. BR,mD |
