Motorcycle hits X5 head on...

I found this on another web forum:

There were four of them riding together comming into a blind turn and the corner got shaper on exit, three of my friends went into oncomming traffic. The first was on the blue cbr1000rr second on the silver R1 and the third on a gsxr1k.

The 1000rr went head on with a BMW X5 at around 40mph, I posted pics of his bike I decided not to post the pics of him only his bike. Its a little too much. The second to go down was the R1, I posted pics of his leg and his bike. Both were airlifted out. The third was the GSXR1000 he was able to walk away but totaling his bike.

All are very lucky to be alive.

Hopefully some of you will think twice on those back roads and caynon runs you could be the bike or the car.... never know.

Surprised a bike did that much damage.

Ouch. PS, the "gross warning" picture links don't work. Um, not that I tried them, honest...

Gives me the willies...haulazz bikes + inexperience/too much testoserone/
and/or bad luck, + drifting over the yellow = T bone time.

Hope the riders are ok, and it's a very hard lesson, unfortunately.

The GW photobucket pics page doesn't work.
Ride/drive carefully out there: it's a fookin zoo full of amateurs, show
offs and people diddling their Ipods/Crackberries, imo.

It's scary. I cringe when I see a pack coming up in my rear view. I give them plenty of room to be stupid.

Illuminum:

VERY sorry to hear about your friends.

I'm sure there will be many months of recovering for a couple of them, and I hope that in the big picture that is all it is.

This is sad and happens much too often. MD is right, it is a jungle on the roads and streets full of amateurs. An accident which would be minor between cars is always serious when a motorbike is involved. When riding you have to be 10 times more attentive than when driving because any accident has the potential to end your life or make you use a wheel chair for the rest of your life.

my yamaha r6 weighed just over 400lbs with all fluids (around 375 dry, iirc) - 400lbs of metal hurtling at a car at 40mph (not to mention the car's speed in addition) can do a fair bit of damage...

an ex of mine died in a similar accident a few years ago. ran wide in a turn and went head-on into an el camino and died on the spot. after that, i decided that riding on the racetrack was preferred to street riding...
