Once again, amazed by BMW.

I drove for 8 hours today, from NH to Pennsville, NJ. I got out of the car feeling like I'd been driving for maybe...45 minutes? It's that nice to travel in! So smooth at speed, very safe and confidence-inspiring.. No matter what road conditions were thrown at it (ranging from the huge potholes and frostheaves in Massachusetts, to the twists and turns through heavy traffic and construction in White Plains, to a few VERY sudden surprise stops on the Merritt Parkway) the car just isn't shaken.. and that's what makes long trips in a BMW so nice! You know your car can stop in time, you know it can handle an emergency lane change.. Just the way a BMW drives makes me feel so safe. Ah, I'm rambling.. but I'm overtired and just in love with this car!
Oh, and as a side note, I averaged almost 34 mpg on the way down!

funny, I was just about to post the same thing.
I have a vacation home in Austin, TX, a 6-8 hour drive from my home. Usually I am totally exhausted when I arrive. Just made the drive this past weekend and when I arrived it felt like I had only been on the road for an hour.

The active ventilated seats made a big difference, plus all the things you pointed out. The X5 is a dream and now I can look forward to the ride to Austin as much as being there.

BMW seats are great, with the one exception being the standard E90 sedan seats. Those have minimal lateral support. Boo hiss.

Did the drive up to Green Ridge State Park, which was almost 2 hrs given the traffic. It seemed like nothing, no aches and pains or fatigue. Of course, having a friend to chat with passes the time quickly too.

The seats in my E46 were very uncomfortable.. I didn't have sports package. They were hard as a rock, the leather was really low-grade.. No support, and the cushion was too short. The E92 has soft leather, more padding, more support, inflatable bolsters.. It's amazing! RTTI is nice, too. I'm sure it will come in handy tomorrow morning in the Baltimore rush hour..

Pennsville NJ? I may be one of the few people on this board who know where that is! Deep South Jersey. You must be the only 335 in Pennsville - unless Bruce Willis happens to be visiting.... What brings you to that neck of the woods?

My father and I drove my '01 4.4 from L.A. to Long Island when I moved back to NYC... the ride was incredible.

Not! but then again, there aren't too many places I haven't been. I managed to put 1000 miles on my new '75 280Z in the first week, never leaving NJ, and it was a work week. Needless to say, Dion's "The Wanderer" is one of my favorite songs.

Drove a rental Chevrolet Uplander LT from San Diego to LA twice, it was a piece of junk, was all over the road, bottomed out twice, and it sounded like the left rear wheel was about to come off. I almost rear ended a car too, brakes sucked. Even the Tahoe next to me stopped faster. I'm glad to be back in the X.
