It was great, the streets were empty....
It should be a taxi free wednesday all the time.

So let me get this straight, they are striking because:
1) They don't want credit card machines (surely will effect tips, "Sorry, I can't break a $20" and "keep the change", etc.) 2) They don't want a GPS system to make sure they are not, A) working off the meter B) taking arbitrary routes to increase fair prices. - Or am I missing something here? B

The GPS' and credit card machines were agreed to by the taxi medalion owners when they got their last fare increase. They made a deal, now they should stick to it.
The taxi drivers/owners are claiming that they'll lose 5% per CC transaction as charged by the cc companies, which I don't believe. They're also bitching about the GPS systems, which, unless they're doing something illegal, they should give 2 shits about. They struck today and tomorrow, and the ironic thing is that the money that they lost by parking their cabs today and tomorrow? probably would have paid for the CC and GPS upgrade. Go figure.
