Another reason I love my X ! (long)

Another reason I love my X5. My description probably won't do the events justice, but read on nonetheless:

So I'm driving home with my wife last night after a fun night out on I-95 from NY into Connecticut. I'm minding my own business, cruising along at a slow 75 to 80 mph in the center lane, enjoying a few tunes on the iPod and chatting about our evening's experiences. The road was mostly empty.

As we get close to the border, right around the I-287 interchange, a dude driving a Camry-like car comes up on me , about to pass on my left. He was going a bit faster that me (but not much faster). He disappears into my blindspot and reappears in my peripheral vision. But the guy isn't in the left lane, he has drifted way over, to the point where his headlights were about to take off my side mirror. I suddenly realized that I had to get out of the way--FAST! I pulled one of those emergency lane change maneuvers they do when testing cars for magazines--a quick, violent turn to the right. I was halfway in the right lane in the blink of an eye, and thankfully there wasn't a car in that lane with me or he'd have been toast. The Camry passes me and I pull it together and get back into the center lane, trying to figure out what just happened.

Realize that this all happened in a fleeting moment. My wife says, "Wow, that guy was about to hit us." I knew I wasn't seeing things. I started cursing the Camry dude, and then caught my breath. My wife then says "Wow, the car (referring to the X) barely moved...this thing is amazing. Would we have been ok in my minivan?"

"I think we'd have been fine, but I'm glad we didn't have to find out. Wow, I love this car even more now," was my reply.

My wife was right. The X handled the violent maneuver at 80mph and didn't even blink. I thankfully have never had to get out the way of danger like that before in any other vehicle (and thankfully the right lane was empty wen I spilled over into it!), and I don't think too many other rides would have performed it as effortlessly as the X did. I love this SAV!

Glad to hear you and your wife came out of the Camry encounter unscathed. It is a very stable vehicle and it's great for long road trips.

Very good for long trips and amazing power for lane change maneuvers to avoid accidents or for passing.

Good to heard that nothing happened!! I got my 2002 X5 about 9 months ago when my wife had our first baby, at that time i was consert for their safety and all the people that i spoked to told me that the X5 was a superb SUV they told me that the X is safer and drives better than lost of cars and that is why i got it, and i`m glad i got it! I love it..

My X amazes me on an almost daily basis. The power, poise, handling, everything about it is first-class. To this day, it brings a smile to face. Incredible vehicle!

And, let me add, a minivan would have probably flipped had you done that lane-change maneuver at 80 MPH.

Fine driving, good reaction. No time to think in a situation like that. Good thing that right lane was clear.
