Soupy Sales off to Valhalla
For notoriety, nothing beat the show that aired New Year's Day 1965, when Sales was producing the program in New York. Told he had a minute to fill, the comic told the children watching on WNEW-TV to find their parents' wallets and "get all the green pieces of paper with the pictures of guys in beards" and mail them to him. In return, he said, he would send them "a postcard from Puerto Rico."  RIP Soupy Sales dies at 83; slapstick comic had hit TV show in 1960s -- latimes.com

MotorCity: I waddled home for lunch from the elementary school every day to watch him. Best kids' show at the time, imo. RIP.

Actually that was my father-in-laws line.
He was close to his eighties when he started to say it and for some reason the way he said it was comical....

was on my "see it without fail" list as a kid - not too many of us "grew up with Black & White TV" here on this website
