Guiness

Your boy is back.

Two days after special teams miscues cost the Eagles the season opener in Green Bay, the team shored up its return game by re-signing Reno Mahe on Tuesday evening.

Mahe, a reserve running back for the Eagles from 2003 to 2006, led the NFL with an average punt return of 12.8 yards in 2005. During his career, he has returned 64 punts for the Eagles, averaging 9.4 yards per return.

Head coach Andy Reid said Monday that catching the ball was the most important thing for his returners going forward, and Mahe is a sure-handed option. He has fumbled on a punt return only once in his career.

To make room for Mahe on the roster, the Eagles released safety J.R. Reed. In his first-ever game as a punt returner and on his third opportunity of the game, Reed muffed a punt that was recovered by the Packers at the Eagles' 31-yard line with 59 seconds remaining in the game. The Packers won the game on a Mason Crosby 42-yard field goal with just six seconds left. In the first quarter, Greg Lewis fumbled a punt that was recovered in the end zone for a touchdown.

Mahe, who was living in Utah prior to his signing, jumped on a flight to Philadelphia early Tuesday morning and worked out for team personnel. He will not wear No. 34, as he did in his first stint as an Eagle. Fullback Jason Davis asked Mahe to keep his number.

Mahe made the team as an undrafted free agent in 2003 after an outstanding career as a wide receiver at BYU. The team quickly switched him to running back, and he found a niche in the return game, averaging 9.2 yards on six punt return opportunities. He became the teams full time-kickoff returner in 2006, averaging 22.23 yards on 30 returns.

Good! He may not be the greatest out there, and he may have not run any punts back for TDs, but at least he can catch the damn ball. 10 of 16 points off dropped punts! I mean come on! I would have told JR Reed to take the damn bus back to Philly and not even get on the plane. While I hate not being able to watch the Eagles, I'm glad I didn't have to watch that one live and only saw the lowlights.

Thanks for the update Ry!

The only saving grace of that game was the Philly D.

The 12 Time NFL Champion Green Bay Packers won and that makes it a good weekend for us up here in the frozen tundra. Had 26 degrees Tuesday night by the way. This would've been a good game for you guys to attend and see what REAL football fans are all about at the best venue in all of football. We're respectful, fun and proud of our teams history. We treat the other fans with respect which is not the case in philly. Before you leave this life you gotta see a game at Lambeau Field, really.
Good game though!!!

Shelly & I were at the game at Lambeau this past weekend and wow was it fun. Brett took to da bolts for sure! If it wasn't a 7:15 game against the bears I'd go but let me think about it anyway. It's a 5 hour drive from up here but yeah, it'd be worth it to see em spank da bears!!!

My brothers fly out from California every year for a game. We rent an RV and hang out from Friday-Monday. It's always a good time.

Really, does that include mooning the attending team? I like the Packers, however the fans can be just as shitty as Philly ones. And don't talk history, the Eagles are just as proud (75yrs baby). How old are the Cleveland Browns, I mean, Ravens again (Michelle)

If we have to lose, I don't mind loosing to FAVRERFVERAVVVAEREE a 37 yr old QB. He is a freakin' work horse.

And don't you owe me a 6 pack from last year????

Of course, the bane of our existence is no SB wins But 11 division wins.

But..talking history..

The Eagles won their third NFL championship in 1960 under the leadership of future Pro Football Hall of Famers Norm Van Brocklin and Chuck Bednarik; the head coach was Buck Shaw. The 1960 Eagles, by a score of 17-13, became the only team to defeat Vince Lombardi and his Packers in the playoffs.
