Pulling valve seals

Ahhh!! Trying to pull valve seals could quite possibly be the shittiest way to spend a friday night, but it's gotta get done pretty soon.

I pull the timing belt, cam cover plates, cam caps, camshafts, valvesprings, retainers, keepers and these fcuking valve seals will not move however much i wiggle, twist and pull. Have any of you done this job?

In case any of you ever end up having to do this, the magic trick was to use a heat gun on the seals until they smoke a little. Then just pull/wiggle away. It's the difference between spending 5min and a LOT of grief to get one out vs. a few seconds.

Glad you got it. How many miles you have on it now?

Just over 135k miles now. This is just to alleviate oil consumption for now. I knew the engine wasn't maintained that well, when I took the valve cover off the first time, but nothing to complain about considering 30%+ discount off market value when I got it. Complete engine rebuild in the spring; lot of plastigauge and patience, should be fun. I really couldn't ask for a more fun dailydriver.

Late to the tread Vig...
I would have suggested heat; the only
way to get valve guides/seals out of an
old Harley, lol!
Good to read you Got'erDone as they say

A full tear down and rebuild sounds like fun. I haven't done a one in a looong time. I can still hear my mom complaining about cylinder heads and a cam shaft sitting on the kitchen table. Glad you are enjoying it... great daily car imo.
