This is something I never learnt how to do as a kid, but it looks so fun. It's def something I'd like to consider pursuing next summer. I have knee issues, so how much of an impact activity is it? It doesn't look too bad.

getting up and going is fairly simple. once you start going, it's very easy to keep balance and push forward.

but stopping is tough. I never use those rubber cushion things on because it's really awkward to tilt your foot back. IMO, if you're not going to use the knee pads as brakes, you're knees will be fine. When I started, I only worried about falling backwards

Well those knees pads may be brakes for some folks but a lot of prople wear them because they fall forward. And when they do they hit their Knees first followed by their hands to brake the fall.(get some gloves to) Rabbit is correct though falling backward happens also.

learn how to t-stop.. it's much easier...and no, not much impact to your knees unless you scrub!

You learn all those expert stops after you fall down a few times. Hey in fact trying to stop is what makes you fall........

You should be fine as long as you dont get a cheap pair with the hard plastic wheels. It is very low impact on the knees and shins. I have played hockey and soccer all growing up and soccer would always bother my knees and shins, but hockey was great. Low impact when your gliding!
