Exclamation DirecTV HD with new HD Channels on 9/26/07!!

What a a nice surprise when I got home this evening....

It was rumored that DirecTV was going to release Smithsonian HD channel on DirecTV on Wed, 9/26/07, but not only did they release Smithsonian HD Channel (Channel 267), but also an additional 20 new channels (21 new channels including the Smithsonian HD).

It was neat watching Weather Channel in HD. I saw an Anderson Cooper show on CNN HD. Wow, I can see Christine Amapour has some new wrinkles! The marqee banner on the bottom of the screen is so clear and hi-res!!

Check out this link re: new channels!!

Finally got my Starz channels in HD, then there is History HD, Golf HD, Animal Planet HD, Showtime has a few new HD channels in addition to the orignal ones....

Next month, you'll get Food TV HD, Cinemax HD, Sci FI HD, FX HD, HGTV HD, etc. and it will be over 70 HD Channels

By the end of the year, DirecTV will add more channels so there will be more than 100 HD Channels!!

To find all the new HD Channels, you can tune into Channel 77 and/or 510.

Anyhow, the only way to get tons of HD channels now is either use DirecTV HD or Verizon Fios TV.

Speed!!!! Seriously though 100 HD channels is pretty sweet..our time with Comcast looks to be running to a close. Alll you satelite customers, how's everything in the rain. We have Dish network for international channels, and it's kinda flaky when it's pouring.

DocKewl,
Helluva HD lineup!

Vig,
We have non-HD DVR DISH here on the mtn, with corresponding severe storms and weather;
it only drops out on occasion and has that pixelated effect in less severe weather. It takes
a seriousazz downpour to cause it to drop out.

I like the new DirectTV lineup in HD and I'm thinking about getting an HD TV here next spring
and either going to Direct or upgrading my DISH if they have the stuff I want. It's pricey
"up here" though, as there is no cable at the high altitudes and both DISH & Direct know that;
thus,no competition and their pricing is "mkt adjusted" and higher than the pricing in the lower
elevation areas where cable competes.

I have ComCrap HD w/HD-DVR in FLA and it's fine, imo.

I rarely have problems with DirecTV reception, I would never use cable.

I would switch back to Directv in a heartbeat if they could get a carriage agreement worked out with MSGHD...

Big R,
Well, the FLA Starter Shack came well wired with latest cable via
ComCrap and we have the "std fare" via our HOA. So, sticking with
them and adding the stuff we wanted, with HD and HD-DVR and
bundling it with their high speed internet and phone, was not a tough
decision.

As I wrote, here on the mtn, we have 2 choices: DISH or Direct, both
sold by the same stlr. We picked DISH way back 6 years ago for here,
but to make the leap to HD I will have to toss our current/6 yr old 57"
Toshiba projection tv, get an HD TV and the necessary HD receiver stuff
from DISH, (or go to Direct, but upgrade stuff too.)

While ComCrap drives me nuts with their "policies", esp. the seasonal
rip-off deal, I have no problem with the stuff they send through the
pipe. If we had a choice of cable vs Sat here on the Mtn, it would
force some decision making, but it's moot.
