The whole General Betray Us Ad thing...

http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/09/23/nyt.moveon/index.html

While I believe it was definitely in bad taste, we do have freedom of speech right? Also, if the NYT was soooooo upset, why did the editor print it? I love this back pedaling..."oh no, it is MoveOn's fault"...

What fault? Freedom of Speech. They can say what they want........

Let's refresh the publics memory on what they printed about JOHN F. KENNEDY (pay close attention to #5 on this list):

Freedom of the Press is fine and dandy, but why did NYT give MoveOn.org a very special heavily discounted rate to publish this one page ad. It is as if NYT was not just publishing an ad, but actually stating their own opinion. Now that NYT has gotten so much flak for it, now they place the blame on MoveOn??????!!!!

NYT is NOT free from bias and of course has always been anti-war and it has shown in their previous past.

That is fine, still doesn't dis allow them from printing it. NYT is trying to act as if 'they were had' by this ad campaign when they were pushing it.

I agree with you. NYT is only back peddling because they don't want to lose subscriptions number. Anyhow, they didn't have to print the ad. They didn't make any money off the ad (as I stated before, they gave them a substantial discount).

NYT screwed up and now they back peddling....

OH PLEASE!!!

The NY Times was the biggest cheerleader for this war. They were never anti-war until around 2005. They perhaps did more than any other news organization to sell this war to the American public. Funny how people have short memories.

Here is just one of many such propoganda articles:

September 8, 2002
New York Times
Hussein Intensifies Quest for A-Bomb Parts
By Michael R. Gordon and Judith Miller

WASHINGTON, Sept. 7 - More than a decade after Saddam Hussein agreed to give up weapons of mass destruction, Iraq has stepped up its quest for nuclear weapons and has embarked on a worldwide hunt for materials to make an atomic bomb....

Sorry Eric, but they're not cheerleaders. They're weathervanes, swingin' with the wind of popular opinion (as they see it).

Right now it's not "cool" to be pro-war, regardless of the facts, so they're not.
