MB SUV Saves My Friend's Life...

One of my good friends here on the Mtn., walked away from
this crash last early Sunday morning. He was headed to the
Greenville/Spartanburg SC airport to fly back to Cajun county
for a relative's funeral.

5:45 am, dark, heading down US 25 near Traveler's Rest, SC:
a car oncoming, suddenly veered over the center line. Melvin
my friend, an ex-jet driver for Delta simply held on and braked
as he T Boned the Toyota Camry. The cops estimate the
Camry was going 70 mph + when it was T boned...

Mel climbed out of the MB, (door still opened), and got away
with cuts, bruises and aches. (He's 65). The MB is totaled to
the tune of ~$48Gs+. He has a new one on order and realizes
the car saved his life. The Camry is about 3 feet wide; both
driver and passenger were mush and dead, unfortunately.

Not an ad for MB, as I know the X is similar in construction, but
a helluva example of what these cars can go through.
My buddy Mel is very lucky and glad to be alive.

amazing isn't it........those millions of dollars on R&D went somewhere, didn't they.

Too bad this seems to be the exception more then the standard.

Holy shit! That poor guy. He must be a wreck. Even though he did nothing wrong and thankfully the MB saved HIS life, two people died in that accident.

The driver of the the Toy Camry was an undoc. alien with
no ID...the passenger was the car owner, naturalized citizen
whom had been in Greenville, SC several years.

My Bud Melvin is still a little "fugue state" in terms of his outlook.

We will never know "what cars" would be ok in that situ;
as for me, I would have wanted to be in an X5 or that MB,
however.

The Camry being demolished as it was should make everyone think about what they're buying when they buy a passenger car. That was a Toyota Camry, supposedly high quality in build and safety, can you imagine what a Hyundai or Kia or other low end brand car would have looked like after that crash?

Dear God. You friend may need a good bottle of Scotch, and some companionship for a while. Wasn't his fault, but I can understand his "fugue."

At least he did what he could to minimize any other injury/damage to others (himself first and foremost).
