How many of you get asked for your ID to buy liquor

77-year-old Per-Eric Henricsson did and he aint pleased........

GALLIVARE, Sweden - He may look young for his age, but 77-year-old Swedish retiree Per-Eric Henricsson was not flattered when his local supermarket asked him to show ID to prove that he was old enough to buy a case of beer. ADVERTISEMENT

Now, Henricsson has asked the National Association of Senior Citizens for help in pressing the ICA supermarket in Gallivare, northern Sweden, to stop carding the elderly.

"It is ridiculous. I have been a customer at ICA for more than 40 years and they know me," Henricsson told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

The minimum age for buying low-alcohol beer and cider in Swedish supermarkets is 18. Beer with higher alcohol content, wine and spirits are sold in government-operated liquor stores, where 20 is the age limit.

Henricsson had planned to buy a case of beer for a social gathering of the local senior citizens group he leads when the cashier asked for his ID. He said he was so insulted by the request that he refused to make the purchase and left the store.

Supermarket manager Lars Hakan Olofsson said the cashier followed the store's policy to demand ID from all customers buying alcohol because it is difficult to guess people's ages.

"I want to make it easier for my staff," he said, adding that several other supermarkets in the area have similar policies.

The last time I was asked for ID in a liquor store I was so excited. I gave the woman my drivers license. She looks down at it, looks up at me, back at my license and says "OH MY GOD! I'm so sorry. You're older than my daughter." I wanted to slap her. She raised me up and then chopped me at the fookin knees.

I've been in a few places that ask everyone, regardless of the fact
that many of us look 5, 6 or 7 decades old...I've been in a few
tourist joints and/or joints that jes' got hammered for serving
underage, and some 21 yr old snip working the bar, demands to
see our ID.

The last place, I got up and left and told the mgr he was a
fookin idiot and the losers he had working there couldn't ID
a grasshopper, lol!

I would have to agree with Mr. Henricsson though. They need to stop carding the elderly. At 77 years old it aint funny.

Here in NY, nobody ever asks. I used to buy beer when I was 17 and even back then I didn't get asked.

When I was 19 and living in Monterey, there was this absolute dive of a place on the main drag that was always hoppin' - because they sold to anyone.

Then one Friday (early - around 6 or so), my buddy and I walked in, and the place was dead. We were the only people there. We noticed several new signs stating that ID was required, but we blew it off. We rolled up to the bar, and ordered a couple tall ones. Bartender asked for ID (which never happened previously), and we knew he'd been busted. We walked.

lets just say the carding in ME depends on how recently an establishment has been fined.
