HOT DEAL: Toshiba HD-DVD player $99

Wal-Mart has the Toshiba HD A2 for $99. That's super cheap for an excellent player. It's a little older in the model lineup, as in on the way out of the lineup but for $99 you can't go wrong. It's part of Wally's Early Black Friday Specials. Get them while you can but YMMV.

I doubt there are any left since news got out yesterday of the Friday sale. Keep in mind it is a 1080i not 1080p but if you don't have a 1080p television who cares. Great price and is elgible for 5 FREE HD-DVD movies as well:

Yes, the news did get out yesterday on some very public outlets. YMMV, but you might just get lucky like I did.

True, it is 1080i but I figured that HDTV looks spectacular in 720p or 1080i, as no HDTV is 1080p, and the 1080p models are about $400. Now to get some HD movies.

Hmm, how big would the difference be using this player v. a 1080p model if your tv is 1080p?

There's no difference in PQ between 1080i and 1080p for film based material (24fps) assuming the deinterlacer on your TV works properly. So if you have a 1080p TV don't let that stop you from picking up this deal.

So does this mean HD-DVD wins vs Blueray since WalMart is picking it up?

I don't think this model outputs in 24fps but the XA2 does. Not a show stopper.

Ray is right on, if your TV can deinterlace it properly, 1080i will look excellent. Or just set the player to do it for you, before it gets to the TV.

It will look great. After all, 1080i is the same exact amount of detail as 1080p.

Absolutely not. Besides, they sell BlueRay players and Playstations with BR too.
