I agree that it's very difficult to compare modern stars (Bonds) to those of an older era except in the way that they compared to their respective competition. So Babe Ruth drank a lot and was overweight, but he was still head and shoulders above almost all players at his time. There is no way to tell how he would fare today hitting off of Roger Clemens or Jonathan Papelbon. There is also no way to tell how many bombs he would have dropped if on hGH.

But Bonds' 14 All Star selections, about half dozen MVPs and lifetime slugging% around .600, etc. is hard to argue with (lots of them from when he was the twig seen on the left side of that photo).

That said, you can't really declare any modern (could be drugged up) athlete as any kind of 'all-timer' IMO.[/quote]

Take Ricky Williams, amazing athelete, coming out of college he turned THE BEST pre draft camp's ever. At 240lbs he ran a 4.4 40, benched 225 for 42 reps(good enough for 2nd behind a 315lb offensive lineman who did 47) and a 39inch Vertical, #1 pick in the draft, Heismann Trophy winner, named a cant miss pick and future Hall of Famer, Then look what happened suspended from the NFL for smoking weed, then retired cause he couldnt stop blazing. No matter what he does now he wont be in the Hall because of the label that will be put on him.
