I want China to come in and support them like the US supports Taiwan & Tibet...that should be interesting.

Are not most tribes soverign nations within the borders of the U.S., such as the Navajo Nation? That is why most tribes are allowed to operate fully functioning casinos on their land in states where it is prohibited.

I wonder if this means those on public assistance will return their welfare checks - uncashed. Somehow the idea of their independence from the USA seems wonderful, but the practical application of it will be much harder to achieve.

Anybody remember the old movie "The Mouse That Roared?" About a small country that declares war on the USA, only to be immediately defeated, following which they receive millions in foreign aid...

Correct.

I would think they are free to do what they want. They are indeed an independent country. They were part of the United States only by treaty.

As for the people who live there who want to stay United States citizens, I doubt they will be ejected from their homes. But they will simply be legal residents and not citizens of the new country.

This will be a very short lived little press event.
