World Junior Hockey Championships (IIHF)

Anybody else watching the series? The last few years have shown us great hockey, without the NHL salary/sponsorship/ego distractions. Just good hockey, and on good quality High Definition to boot.

Canada opened 3-0 over the host Czechs, defending the title from last year.
Russia 7-4 over Finland
US 5-1 over Kazakhstan after a slow start

That makes 19 games unbeaten for the Canadian team at this tournament. Anybody jaded by the NHL should take a look, it is highly recommended. Not sure what stations are carrying it in the US, but TSN has it in Canada.

This is the first I've heard about it. Guess something like that wouldn't get any air time on the NHL Network

Semifinals were a good game today, USA vs Canada. Scoreless until the middle of the second period.

Canada got one. Then two. Then, the USA team collapsed, with two goals against in 20 seconds. They did get one to redeem themselves late in the third.

4-1 Canada. Finals are on Saturday.

Good game for the gold medal today.

Sweden started slow, Canada was up 2-0. Sweden scored at 5:13 in the 3rd. Just for a reference, in the round robin game a few days ago Canada was up 2-0 over Sweden, who scored at 5:14 in the 3rd, and went on to win it.

This time, Sweden owned the 3rd period, and they ended regulation time with a tie. Canada scored in the 4 on 4 overtime. Some happy kids there.

Congratulations to the Canadian junior team, that makes 4 gold medals in a row. Next year they go for #5, in Ottawa.
