Real Estate booming in one large city

Baghdad Iraq.

Sounds like Capitalism is taking a foothold. I wonder what will happen if we surrender?

E61Silver is an unknown quantity at this point
The government should set up a fund to support the Mortgage Back Security bond market.

Without a bond market you don't have liquidity and mortgages, no matter how low they drop the rate.

I'm right here. Sorry to say, I'm no real estate expert. If you want to buy land in Baghdad, go right ahead. Maybe the depleted uranium particles in the air and water supply will do you good. Sounds like a paradise in the making.

You won't believe this...A 2,300-square-foot plot of land (Sand only) on the good side of town costs $350,000. Considering an acre is 43,560 square feet I say that sand is pretty expensive.

Now get this...A 750 square foot house in a lower middle class neighborhood goes for over $150,000.

My guess would be this has largely to do with our effort to bring stability to the region. If we were to pull out in defeat the extremists would pour into Baghdad and Iraq would become the terrorist capital of the World. Good luck going back in to clean up that mess.

BTW, there is no more capitalism in Iraq today than there was 10 years ago. Iraq always had capitalism, with the exception of their nationalized oil industry, which is still nationalized today.

I'd be curious to know what real estate prices were like in Baghdad prior to 1990. Iraq had a very healthy economy back then before the Gulf War.
