Statins such as Lipitor
My LDL needs some attention and I've been told that my high levels are genetic and won't change from diet and exercise alone. |

Hey Buddy... I am friends with a couple of long time Pfizer chemists who are very familiar with this compound. I'll shoot your inquiry over to them to see what they say.

Have you tried to change your diet and have you tried exercise?
Unless you have what you've been told may not be correct. Quote:

The Internet is a wonderful resource but it is getting harder to filter through all the disinformation. My memory is very important to me and I rely on it all the time. Two weeks from now I'm giving a half hour lecture from memory with no notes. Last thing I need at 41 is Alzheimer's or sometimers disease. |

Diet is tough...I'm a big Adkins fan of no carbs. That means a lot of meat and fat; however, theory is your body burns fat and thus your cholesterol is not affected. I've started watching my fat intake to try my best to avoid medications. |

Regarding the question asked, I haven't actually read anything about that particular side effect, but it would not shock me. The main side effects seem to be liver related. You can drastically lower your LDL through diet, but you would probably not be happy with the changes you would have to make in your diet. My dad managed to lower his cholesterol from 250+ down to about 160 without any medication, all in about 3 months. However, he probably had better motivation than most as he had just had a major heart attack and the doctors told him he would not live much longer if he did not lower his cholesterol. Just going on your typical "low cholesterol" diet is not enough. In his case he cut out all diary, all meat (including chicken) except for seafood, and anything very high in carbs. He eats mostly vegitables and fish/seafood. He also stays away from anything very high in sodium. In my dad's case, his high cholesterol is also genetic. He had a brother who died of a heart attack at age 37, and both of his parents also died of heart disease. He also went for chelation therapy every week for 6 months during this same period, so I'm not sure if that had any affect on his cholesterol counts or not. But the doctors say that the several blockages he had in his arteries last year are all gone now. So apparently it can be done without medication.

Oh Eric, you blithering idiot. As I sit around having a beer with a friend there is no marketing spin or revenue protection.
And what qualifies you to answer the question or give counsel just because your Dad had success with a particular strategy? Trusting your opinion on this topic is just about as stupid as saying that a former First Lady is qualified to be President because she was married to the guy who actually did the job. Quote:

Here it comes... Eric's going to pull some WHO statistics about worldwide Lipitor use and associated side effects...
