Front-window tints/NYC tickets...

Just a heads up for those of you with front-window tints less than 35% in NYC...I was about to pull into a parking garage in times square and noticed a cop standing in the middle of the street with some type of object in his hand. He motioned that I pull over...he comes over to my window and asks that I lower my window half-way so he can test my window tint. He places the object on my window and says that NYC allows for tint up to 35% however mine reads 28% but he'll let me go since I'm borderline. As I pull off, I notice several other cops standing in the middle of the street pulling people over and ticketing them after testing their windows.

i was in NY (in that same area last Friday) and didn't see the "checkpoints."
they probably do it here and there. i think mine are the legal limit. what is the factory tint for the rears bc mine match that

luckily you didn't get a ticket. i wonder how much that ticket cost...

Traffic cops, just doing their jobs. Not every cop is assigned to homicide etc.

I'm on my 5th or 6th ticket already on tints with the X...

I dunno how the guys with 5% on the windshield gets to drive. Seen plenty of MB with front windshield.

My worst tint ticket was when I was traveling on the parkway, and I was right around the PSL when I passed a speed trap I knew existed.....lo and behold, he pulled out, chased me down - only for a tint ticket.

Somethings going on in the city today...plenty of leos on 5th ave and 60th street, and back in SOHO, plenty of Leos out and about in prescence as well.

and btw- the reason cops are after cars with tint, other than it's illegal, is that they can't see inside the car that is overly tinted, which, could lead to an unplanned shooting.

I hear ya. It's all fair game.

Just wasn't expecting on on the parkway instead of them waiting for a speeder........

exactly, they should be doing this, front tint is illegal in Illinois as it should be, because it is dangerous and not needed. Why somebody wants tinted fronts is beyond me, it looks really cheesy IMO.

Two days in a row...saw cops pulling cars over again and ticketing today on
8th ave near port Authority. There were a couple dodge charger cruisers in the area as well so not sure if it's just traffic cops involved.

Any NYC cops on this board that can shed some light?

End of the month - need to up the revenue and meet the 'quota'
