A tear came to my eye

This is why you don't let your son drive your prized Ferrari!

Hey, if you lend out your Ferrari, you have to live with the consequences if it gets damaged, for ANY reason.

The kid now has a bar story to tell his friends and actually, so does his father

I make him join the military as a cook and an E-1 on top of that. See how he can live with $1347 /month.

Could have been worse, he could have been driving a 250 California Spyder, a 250 GTO or a 250 Testa Rosa...the 360 S can be replaced with a fat insurance check...but not the older F cars, good luck finding one of them now a days.

You know, when I was a younger, my dad once taught me, a car is just a car, a boat is just a boat, and yes, shit can, does and will happen.

I remember once, I had just come home from college for summer and my dad told me to meet him for lunch. My car was packed to the 9's and he told me, take the Porsche.

I met him for lunch, drove the Porsche home, and parked it behind my loaded SUV.

I had to move the SUV a few minutes later, hoped in and backed it up. Now lets remember two things,
a) I couldn't see out my rearview as I had just moved home for the summer.
b) The Porsche was parked right behind the SUV.

The story ends with a huge scratch and dent in the hood of the Pcar. Dad said, don't worry, accidents happen, take it and get it fixed.
Another time, we had a small Wellcraft boat, the air intake's on the side ripped off a chunk of wood on a beautiful yacht that was anchored next to us while I was piloting.. Dad said, don't worry about it, go enjoy the day, we'll get it fixed and there's always insurance.

Then there was the time my bro sank our dads 7 series in a big puddle.

Point is, our dad never got mad, we weren't acting irresponsibly, but accidents do happen. Be it a Ferrari, a Porsche or any other material object.

His dad should be happy that his kid was not hurt.

Obviously, the kid didn't mean for it to happen. Although, I can't say I just wouldn't be angry at all if my CS was wrapped around a pole. The frustration would wear off quickly, though, and be replaced by relief because he was alright.

2x

I've had my share of accidents (over 10+). Whether those accidents happen because of my carelessness (for the most part) or unavoidal circumstances, the first thing that my folks were concerned about was if I was ok and if i got hurt. There was never a time when they asked about the car first.

After my first few accidents at around the age of 19, I realized what my folks truly valued. This realization and my unbelievable luck to come out unscathed in almost all accidents I've been in helped tremendously in my maturation as a careful and responsible driver. Life is too good to lose it behind the wheel.
