Wink X5 noises in back...

I just bought a 2002 4.4 X5 I noticed the spare tire does not have the center nut that holds it. I think thats the noise i hear all the time when driving.
Also the rubber thing that goes around the jack is ripped. I guess i will need to get these 2 things so i can stop the noise. Its not a big deal if the radio a little loud, but thats not the point.

I will go ahead and contact mu friend at the dealer to see if he can hook me up with those little parts.

Any suggestions??

thanks guys. I am a new user so be patient.

Congratulations on your new purchase, Romeo, and welcome to the board. Make sure to check out the "Articles" section for the most extensive X5 knowledge base on the 'net.

Oh, yeah.... post some pics of your ride. Again, welcome and congrats!

Juan

:welcome:

Let me know what you find out about the little rubber/plastic piece that secures the jack in the spare tire compartment. (I just busted mine while changing my first tire - I assume it's the same piece on my '05 as on your '02)

I Sure will. I guess thats the noise i hear when driving since my spare tire/jack is lose. Hopefully once I tighly secure these items, the noise will go away.

I hope so too... Those little rattles can be frustrating; once you get tuned into it, it haunts you until you get rid of it!! I've been patiently (sort of) rattle-proofing some of the creaky point of my '05, but I'm starting to think it may be a loosing battle to try to get it completely silent.
As long as I quiet the consistently annoying noises, I'll be satisfied

Guys i found out that the rubber thing that goes aroung the jack was ripped! I had to glue it back together.. so far its working ok. But there still a noise in back. I dont know what it is. I know that my spare tire does not have the lock nut that goes in the center. I will work on that next...

I will let you know...

I broke my jack holder piece too - just bought a new one and swapped it out. (Let me know if you want the part #)

Your spare tire could def. be the culprit for the noise from the back... in the 3 months that I've owned my '05 4.4i, I've chased down a number of little creaks and rattles, so I think it's just part of living with a taughtly-sprung SAV.

People on this forum are very knowledgable, so if you're having trouble tracking down a particular noise, describe it in detail and chances are someone will be able to help.

Good luck,

Super !!!

I agree with you about all the little noises. I will work on them when i get the chance. Its less now after i tighly secured the jack. Although, I will need to get the lock nut that secure the spare tire. Do you by any chance have the part number for this center lock nut? Anybody?
