Started the engine of a new TDI....

So I guess I was one of the first Americans to ever start the new Jetta TDI Diesel.
I was in Canada and ran into a VW display and they happened to tuck the new TDI in there. I spotted it out, and learned this one was the only model to travel all around Canada to train the dealers. The guy said the US spec models had to be tossed (about 200) because they were filled up with gasoline at the port and not ULS Diesel. So I was checking it out (very nice inside, leather, power seats, moonroof, etc) and the guy tosses me the keys and tells me to start it up. Almost silent! No clunk or anything!
I took a video but you cant even hear it start it's so quiet.
So for $23,000-26,000 you can get a pretty fast, decently loaded, 45 mpg diesel soon!

Would have kicked the ass of the wimpy hybrid the rental people tossed at me....it sounded like a golf cart and had no power at all.

(pics to follow)

talk about a bad day at work
The VW diesels have been good for a while, but after owning a VW in general, I would never own another. The service is abominable.

2008/2009 will bring some interesting vehicles on the diesel end of the spectrum. I personally would like to see a Diesel 5 series but since it's not going to happen i guess i'll just wait and see what transpires.

I thought that 535d was coming to America. BMWNA even had some demos at O-Fest this year.

Traded my 2001 TDI today for $4,000 over blue book. I was getting 52 mpg consistantly traded it in for a Volvo S40 2.5. I will miss the mpg but not the hard starting in the winter.
