Anyone else ever have to do this???

After 2 days of travel I finally made it to the Duluth MN Airport. I had to drive a rental car from Minneapolis and when I pulled into the parking lot to put my stuff in my X I could NOT find my key. I have no idea where it went. I have an extra key in the X but how do I get in to use it??? After calling GEICO & BMW I found out I need to order a new key. This morning I called my nearest dealership 3.5 hours away and they will place an order for a key to get in the X on Monday. They will not send me a fully functional key but only a key to open the door since I can not fax them proof of the title and registration which are locked in the car. So, until maybe Tuesday when I get my new key sent to me I'm driving a P.T. loser rental car. Everyone learn from me and get one of those magnet key hider things and hide your key somewhere on the X or at least don't keep it in your X. Also make a copy of your title and current registration as they would not accept last years registration as proof of ownership.
Anyone know of another way to get in my X instead of waiting for the key???

You have an e53, right? Help me understand why a locksmith wouldn't be able to atleast open the driver door so you could get in and use the spare key you left in the car. What did BMWUSA say?

Lock-out service

Your BMW is equipped with an advanced entry
system, which cannot be bypassed by traditional
locksmith methods without significant damage to
your vehicle. BMW encourages you to always carry
your spare wallet key separately from your other
keys. However, in the event that you find yourself
locked out, a simple telephone call to Roadside
Assistance will help you get back on the road. A
representative will help you to arrange towing
service to the nearest BMW center.
Related towing costs will be compensated up to
$100 per incident. You – or the person driving your
vehicle – are responsible for any expenses related
to replacement keys.

Interesting, I didn't know that. Thanks for the info.

I read another post from someone in the same situation as you. One person was successful with a locksmith, but said that the locksmith used a door wedge and a really long coat hanger to pull the interior door handle. Sounds like that would be a little painful for the X. I think you did the right thing waiting. I know you are probably kicking yourself for this, but why was the spare key in the X? Chances are it will never help you there. Even if you are far away from home you can have it shipped to you overnight at worst.

I can't understand why you would keep your spare key in the car not only that but your car documents.

Is there a legal requirement for you to do this in the US.?
