California peeps, it's the law. Hands free at 12:01 tomorrow

No exceptions and no grace period.
You teens you can't use a cell phone
or text message period.

Long as you don't drink it in the car that's just fine.
But any attempt to dial your cup or talk into your
cup or text your cup will be met with 40 lashes.

Next stop, apply it to all drivers, all ages. Driving deserves attention. Many stats show a similar accident rate for hands free or not.

I hate the BS "studies" that posit that driving with hands-free is just as distracting as with the phone in your hand so there's no benefit to hands-free. True, the fact is that both are distracting and that it's safer not to be on the phone at all but the argument that the "studies" put forth ticks me off because it cannot be said that driving with one hand and a phone glued to one side of your face is not more dangerous than having both hands available for steering and your head able to rotate around to see.

Not only does driving take attention but it is a two handed task.

No doubt my worst driving episodes were with me on my phone working. A few memorable episodes lines on both sides of the road were optional.

I've been driving with a cell phone since they came out. I remember the early suitcase phones and cell phone bills higher than my house payment each month.

I don't know about any studies but i can tell you for sure that everyone i have ever talk to about the subject say's with out a doubt people on cell phones driving are dangerous period. Everyday more than any other activity ell phone use in a car is the worst.

The same type of law is going into effect in Washington State on July 1st as well. I am not sure that I believe the studies. I do think that people using their cell phone to there head are more distracting than on a head set or using Bluetooth. I am speaking from personal experience.
