I Feel Violated!

So I'm packing up my old 19" style 63s that a member here purchased - and i'm in my garage. Something is wrong though. I see my wife's bicycle.. but I don't see mine.. that I just 'borrowed' from my brother in law. he has an avalanche and a honda motorbike.. he's not going anywhere on a bicycle. It was an old mongoose that i'd planned to take interest in and restore. was still in pretty good shape. Anyway - by now you know that it was stolen. I stood there looking at my wife's bike, like the other one was right there against the wall. Our garage doesn't have an inside entrance, just the garage door and an outdoor entrance.

then it clicked. A few days after i got the bike, I was on my way up north for the weekend for some camping with the family. when i got back, i noticed the side door open (my fault.. i took the time to lock the garage door but not the garage side door). The side door has glass on it anyway, so you could easily just break it and open the lock. So basically in the 2 days i was gone, the bike was stolen. when i saw the door open i did a quick scan but because i just got the bike i didnt think anything of it. my wife's bike was there and any other "valuables" - come to think of it - my brand new wheels and tires were there!!!!!!!

So i suspect it was a kid who felt he could get away with just a bike. anyone with a car would have taken the wheels etc.. my garage is not exactly hidden off the street either.

feeling very violated..

Sorry to hear that. My garage is exactly the same as yours. I have just now recently started locking the entrance to it. But just like you said somebody could easily just break the glass and unlock the door...

Yeah.. i'm thinking before I replace the door completely I'm going to get a lock that locks on both sides - and put a black garbage bag over the glass on the inside.. i believe in out of sight out of mind. But i have to think it's someone in the neighbourhood who knew i wasn't home for the weekend.. saw me packing the camping stuff and bags.. saw me bring the bike in the garage.. its just disturbing.

yeah.. some kid with a silver and blue mongoose with a rusty chain and rusty front fork is gonna catch a beatdown.. or get hit by a titanium X5.. the worst party is that it wasn't mine.. i hate that. I can take a loss on a bike - just not my X5. But when it's someone elses - and old and used - all i can say is "sorry man"

If you think it was a kid ask around the neighborhood, and the local stores, and keep your eyes peeled. You would be surprised what other people see.
You might get it back.
