LOL

Rep. Barney Frank said Wednesday, announcing a proposal to end federal penalties for Americans carrying fewer than 100 grams, almost a quarter-pound, of the substance.

Can you imagine needing to carry a 1/4 pound of pot around with you? How is that responsible pot use?

The idea being, that minimal amounts of marijuana use is of no harm to anyone, other than the fact that it is wrongfully illegal.

But the 1/4 pound law is making allowances for people who grow in small quantities and for people who transport it.

Think of it like this, what if: Beer is legal to drink, but not legal to make. Well, OK, then we are still putting people in prison for making the beer.

In order to stop wasting the courts time and law enforcement going after marijuana users, it's equally as important to give a pass to the people who are growing and distributing for personal consumption.

A harvest of about 8-10 plants will probably yield somewhere in the 1/4 lb. range. And 8-10 plants is widely regarded as "personal consumption".

It's a bit more complicated than that. "Distributing" is selling and that would require a business license and taxes. "Personal Use" is just that...You grow your own and use what you grow. There is no need for you to transport 1/4 pound of marijuana unless you are in the business of "distribution" which gets dirty and promotes crime.

I'm not against the legalization of marijuana and I'm a conservative. If that is going to happen there needs to be a better system than which is being proposed.

Mary Jane should have been made legal and regulated DECADES ago. It is a complete, BS, morality law...nothing more.

MLB,

A quarter pound might seem like a lot, but in reality, it's about 3.5 ounces of marijuana. If your harvesting you're own marijuana, it can very easily be accounted that the 100 grams would be the yield of a very small harvest. Maybe just 4-5 plants. That would easily be consumed before the ability to generate a new harvest.

Most hobby growers can harvest a few times a year, maybe 3-4 harvests. So if you think about the amount that most people smoke and how long it takes them to successfully yield a good product, on the lowest end of the spectrum, the amount they are talking, a quarter pound or 100 ounces, is not large amounts of MJ.

It's enough that someone could grow their own plants, store a small yield and have a new harvest ready by the time that 100oz. runs out.
