Why is Exxon making 11B a quarter bad?

Last I checked, companies are suppose to make money. In fact, this is a US oil company making a profit, isn't that a good thing? Isn't it the government's job, not the corporations, to "help" US citizens?

I honestly do not understand this "how dare Exxon" crap.

11 B profit, evidently, was not good enough. Shares of the stock went down!! I read somewhere that they are actually underperforming by sector standards, i.e. should be making more profit.

Vilifying them puts a face on the problem other than the real cause. In other words, don't blame congress or the Government for their lack of comprehensive energy policy for your misery, blame Exxon!!

Disclaimer: I have XOM shares

Here is the part all the cry-babies seem to glance over:

http://www.usnews.com/articles/busin...-windfall.html

The oil industry urges people to look beyond its profits to its profit margin: about 7.6 percent of revenues late last year. That's not much higher than the 5.8 percent profit margin for all U.S. manufacturing, and if you exclude the financially troubled auto industry from that analysis, the oil industry actually appears less profitable than most manufacturers, which were earning 9.2 cents on every dollar of sales.

Bottom line, if you really don't like the bill...don't buy the product. But, if you need the product, don't complain about the cost to the company selling it. Complain to the place that set the rules.

Stock is down because their profits fell short of analyst predictions.
