Oh yes. That is too much fun to get rid of right now. She is fast but can't be compared to the F car.

Come on, give us more info on handling, traction compared to the M6. How long until you break her in?
Nope. That would be my 599 GTB Fiorano. My dealer told me that she will be late so I decided to get an F430 to help the waiting a bit. I may decide to keep the F430 when the 599 arrives. The 599 is blistering fast and more every day useable than the F430 but the F430 is so much fun to drive.

Compared to the M6: faster, better handling, more of a driver's car, the sound is amazing and the gear changes are so fast and accurate. The F1 gearbox on the Ferrari is a masterpiece compared to the M6's SMG. Don't get me wrong ... I have always (and still) loved the SMG on my M6 but the F1 superfast is simply better. Even in auto mode it is acceptable to drive. The M6 in D-mode (I think you will admit it since you have an M5) is a disaster. The nice thing on the SMG while downshifting are the throttle blips. None of that on the Ferrari but then again, you don't need it as the sound is so raw. When the valves open up at 3,500 rpm every hair on your body stands up. The power is available at every RPM and taking it through the gears all the way up to 8,500 rpm is simply breath taking.

Having said all this ... BMW still delivered a masterpiece with the M6. I drove it all the way to Italy and back last month and enjoyed every minute of it. Comfortable and with plenty of power when you need it. Driving through the tunnels in Switzerland was great (the Eisenmann really pumps out a great tune) but with the F430 it would have been ... different. But the F430 is not the type of car you want to take on such a long road trip.

That is where my 599 will come in next year. So ... for now the M6 stays as it is fun and practical next to the F430. This may change once my 599 arrives.

Oh ... and no break in on the Ferrari. Just take it easy the first 300 km on the clutch and you are ready to blow its socks off. Ferrari delivers a complete package and you need to drive one before you really can understand it. It is a mechanical drug.

PS: How is your M5 doing. Still enjoying it?

Cheers,

M

Damn, you must be having soooo much fun. Congrats
I am loving every minute of the M5, a real beast to drive. Still playing around with MDM mode and S6. As this is the most powerful car I've had and is my daily car, I treat it with respect, but have done a lot of km's using MDM mode most of the time unless on wet roads. I love the S6 mode, cause it chirps all the way to 3rd gear
I am changing my wife's X3 sd for an X5 sd which should be arriving in a couple of weeks. For that, I agreed that I would be getting 2 more polo horses from Argentina with a 2 week trip in November to see the Palermo tournament, living on a ranch and sharpening my polo skills ... with no more car purchases for a while
For me, F cars are a dream I would love to have, but can't afford right now.
I can't wait to hear what you think of the 599. When did they say it was arriving?

Beautiful! It's unusual to see a white Ferrari.

Thanks. There are some around if you look carefully. I've seen white Scuds and white 599's. In fact, I'm still hesitating if I shouldn't get my 599 in white although the Rosso Monza looks stunning on the Fiorano.

Cheers,

M

Glad to hear you are having so much fun with the M5. Wise man not to experiment with the S6 in wet conditions. You may be an ex M5 owner before you know it no matter how good your driving skills are.

Same with the F430 ... when wet be careful.

Congratulations with the purchase of your new X5. I'm sure we will see pictures of it soon. Enjoy it in good health.

With regards to the 599: it is coming in the second half of 2009. No specific delivery date provided yet.

Cheers,

M
