Why would either one wave?
I understand the concept of a question of a hierarchy (!) but can't imagine that either driver in question would think they are 'above' the other. Both models in question are theoretically equal IMO.
I can't imagine any BMW car driver waving in my area, unless it was an early 2002 or 3.0 coupe. Waving meant acknowledging a common bond, and simply buying a car that they sell 1000s of can't forge that bond. I do understand waving, it was common when I rode bikes (not Harleys, they were above it all...), it was common with the Saab 99, and it was very common with the Morgan +4.
