GM is suffering the consequences of their poor decisions made years ago. It's been oft-discussed. The current economic conditions don't make it any easier to stay alive.

The suggested number of other closures is estimated at 600 nation wide. Not a good thing for the employees. A while back someone posted that BMW was taking measures to scale back USA units in favor of a more lucrative european market. I wonder how GM is doing over there? Quote:

GM is in the toilet because GM products have sucked for decades. Bad Management, design by committee and overall weak demand for huge SUV's is the biggest problem.
I actually think if GM can get the "VOLT" right they have a chance to move in the right direction.

Not to faintly praise the Ol'General, but they, and Ford, both make some
good pocket rockets for the Euro mkt. They never get here, to North America, for the usual lame "market awareness" rationale that all the cheap suits from GM/FoMoCo put out. It will be a tough row to hoe for any/all of the car mfg'ers in the next several months, imo. BR,mD
