Big Brother devices in cars

I see a time in the not so far future when some people will demand devices in cars that keep impaired people from driving, or non-impaired people from driving poorly.

Devices in cars could detect alcohol, etc. via spectrum analysis of the air exiting the driver's mouth. There is already technology that scans the driver's eyes for signs of sleep. I would imagine this, and maybe some sort of EKG sensor on the steering wheel, all connected to the mental health software on the OBC could detect rage or simply inattention.

Science can detect the gases surrounding stars, so why not sensors on overpasses that could scan every car and alert the police to the presence of alcohol, marijuana, forms of cocaine, amphetamines, gun powder and so on?

Your car could be a true traitor, uploading to the police computer every time you broke the speed limit, used a cell phone, ran a light, etc.

As we all know, our society is anti-tax so revenues are gathered with fines and fees instead. Imagine how rich your city would be if it got a couple of hundred bucks every time a citizen edged over the speed limit.

I'm sure fatalities could be cut down with this technology, but what would you think? How do you balance freedom from Big Brother technology with public safety? Would you like this technology for airline pilots? If them, why not us drivers?

BTW, I would guess there are very serious and very secretive Big Brother technologies that are in use today that could be applied at a lower level in the future..
