$50 Million for Bridge net or more fire fighters?

Hmmmmmm.....

Watching California burn again can't help but think that the $50 Million they are spending on the suicide net for the GGB could have been better spent on improving public services like FIRE DEPARTMENTS....

What a waste of freaking money.... Homes are burning and we could have spent that money wisely.....

LOL..

This is a new thread, revisiting the issue in lieu of the massive fires that are presently eating up large chunks of California..

If only we had a net !

What we need is a FIREPROOF NET!!! oooohhh, aaaahhhh! Or for Al Gore to develop fireproof trees! The ideas keep getting more democratic and less realistic...

I'll just agree that more firefighters and firefighting equipment would be a great idea. Maybe someone should attempt to devise a way to avert wildfires from houses... other than "smashlabs" on discovery who wanted to throw a large cloth over a house like an oversized, flame retardant convertible top............... dumbasses

I drove near the fire on Angel Island in the San Francisco Bay this morning about 5:45 so it was still dark. It looked as thought the fire went from the shore to the top of the mountain which makes up Angel Island. It was clear meaning no fog and a large moon this morning. As smoke billowed into the night I could not help but wish I'd had a camera other than the cheap one on my iPhone.

It was terrible but a spectacular site with all the components on a clear night framed by the lights of the city.

Here are some from the local paper.

If and when the money "IS" spent
then a complaint can be made regarding
how much needs to be spent improving
public services like FIRE DEPARTMENTS.

Until that time remember this important
fact. Officials estimate the barrier will cost
40 million dollars to 50 million dollars to build,
but there is still no decision on how to fund the project.

Hey QS,

I thought of a way to fund the net.

Why doesn't the state of California or San Francisco assess a tax on the estates, beneficiaries and/or heirs, of all the people that have ever jumped off the bridge.

Make the people who have committed suicide off the GBB pay for the net or make their families pay for it.

If they had decent insurance or something I could see that. But if they had nothing, and left the family with the bill to bury them as well as the loss of a loved one, I just couldn't see trying to charge the remaining family a, for all intensive purposes a "suicide tax" to add to their loss... That would be like "Im' sorry your brother killed himself, but because he did it off the bridge you owe the city $$$$. Sorry for your loss"????
