Wow, imagine a world without cellphones today!!

We take these little telecommunication devices for granted these days. For those of you who are older, Star Trek had a vision of the future with those communicators....

Anyhow, nowadays, we have smartphones which are becoming like little mobile computers with a phone. Just imagine what the next 25 years will bring...

I remember the Dynatac and I still have the Startac somewhere in the house.

I think the first cell phone I saw was on a 1985 episode of "Miami Vice", when Don Johnson (Crockett) was talking on it on his boat. It looked like a 10-pound rectangular cube brick that you can knock someone out with. I thought it looked SOOOOO coool, Miami Vice was like the ultimate trend-setter show of the mid-80s . Can you imagine people dressing like that today, and walking around with those big "brick" phones??

I got my first car phone ~late '83: it was $2Gs at the local NJ car phone Joint,
(a predecessor to Verizon), it cost ~$75 a month hanging on my dash and, about
.30 cts a fookin min. Fortunately the "company" was paying for it.

I got my first portable "cell phone" about 1987, and it looked a lot like that pic by DocKewl.
It worked like tin cans & string and the freakin battery lasted about 15 mins. I had to nearly
empty out my briefcase to get it in there.

Here's a pic of a phone similar to the one I had when growing up;
we had 4 other houses on the "party line", so one had to wait for
a turn.

We had an old bag phone on our sailboat when I was say... three years out...
I think its still in the basement. A long way between the uniden screwed into the old volvo brick wagon and the iphone I have bluetoothed to my E90.

My X5 came with a StarTac. It's now in the glove box and my xoutpost.com business cards are in it's place.

I still primarily use a land line as a means of communication, mobile phone when that's not possible. Damn proud of that I got my first mobile in late 2004.

I also recently put up a note on my Facebook, essentially saying "Please refrain from using Text Messaging unless in emergency situations."
