Half of China's toy exporters have gone bust so far this year.
A Chinese toymaker which supplied firms including US giant Mattel has gone out of business with the loss of up to 7,000 jobs.
Rising raw material and labour costs and slowing US demand forced Smart Union to close its doors this week. The Chinese news agency Xinhua said 52.7% of the country's 3,631 companies making toys for export went out of business in the first seven months of the year. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/7675552.stm

Toys, Milk, now cars
I just read Ford 2007 models have potential defective tire valves from China. The article said up to 1,000,000 (cars or tires I'm not sure)
We need to ban Chinese imports. We can do it alone. Everything. |

It would be easy (for me)
And I'm only speaking for myself, If I saw a row of DVD players at Walmart* and each had a little flag showing the country or origin on top, I would pass by each one with a Chinese, or Taiwanese etc flag and buy the American product, even if it was more. Double the price, no. Same goes for clothing: If Walmart* had one rack of clothes with an American flag on top I think everyone would flock to it. I just don't see that any product made here could be significantly higher in price. China is getting richer and the people will not work for dirt anymore. I know this to be true as I have friends in the auto business who travel there all the time. The cost of shipping all that stuff across the Pacific is way up. Everytime I watch the TV show 'How it's Made', I see so much automation (here) and very few people! If labor is the key, then surely we can create the few jobs it takes to run an automated factory on this side of the pond.
