I've never liked their stores or sales staff. Best Buy has always beat them hand down.

I used to work for Circuit City in college and during one of my layoff stints. Circuit City's demise was switching from commission only sales staff to hourly sales staff. They lost the incentive for the sales person to be knowledgable and courteous to the customers.

It was good money, too. In a regular month you could make $4K pretty easily. During the holidays, $6.5k to $10K if you worked hard.

yes! That place sucks. You can never find somebody to help you and the selection/prices suck.

I don't quite get the wrath, as BB and, even CC, brought a large platter
of electronic stuff to the average consumer, with a brick&mortar chain
of stores...the clerk skills have deteriorated to barely order takers, true;
but for many of the non-intelligentsia out there in gizmo shopping land,
they do/did a pretty good job for quite some time, imo.

A BK for any large chain or company is not something to be relished, imo.
It's going to become more frequent and is not a good sign for the econ., imo.
I smell things getting very ugly before the tide comes back in.

I couldn't agree more with this statement. Any time you see large anchor type chains go under, it's a pretty ominous sign for the general state of the economy. This chain obviously had a huge presence throughout the country and employed thousands of people who either have been or could likely be laid off in the near future. Hopefully, they'll be able to restructure/reformat enough to save the brand and the associated jobs in the next few months.

I for one, completely disagree about CC as a whole. Sure their sales people suck, but so what? I'm not going to rely on a 17 year old kid to sell me a TV or anything for that matter. I research the heck out of any purchase I make, then I find the best price and go buy it with as little interaction as possible with staff. I have ALWAYS found either the lowest price at CC or had them match or beat the very lowest price. Not only that, but after you buy it from them, they continue to price match/beat for 90 days!! Even better, I've had a credit card with them for years, and I have never paid interest on ANYTHING I've purchased and received good loyalty rewards in return. I think the "service" you would get at BB or any other chain is marginally better at best and the price is normally much higher. Again, if you can do the research yourself and you know exactly what you want, I think CC has been the best for prices and interest free purchases. (also, they have been exceptional with returns as I have had to do a few due to mfg defects)
