It's an amazing thing that a dog would sacrifice itself for its owners without hesitation, pit bull or otherwise. I look at my cute little Rottweiler puppy (who is now almost 100 pounds of muscle) and think about that fact and it is very humbling while saddening to think about.

LOL, that's not entirely true. One of my friends who shares my opinion that Pit Bulls should be restricted, sent me this email last week.. I never posted it, till now

ROYAL OAK, Mich. -- The owners of three pit bulls that attacked two sisters said they are considering legal action against police.
The family pets turned on the women Friday afternoon biting and chasing them until police were called.
A man, his 22-year-old wife, her 17-year-old sister and the sister's infant were all living in the same Royal Oak home.
The 22-year-old woman said the dogs became unruly when her sister tripped over one of them. The dog's behavior then and the animals began to attack the sisters.
The man was not home at the time.
The 22-year-old grabbed the infant, ran to a neighbor's house and called 911. The 17-year-old locked herself in a bedroom.
Below is an excerpt of the emergency call.
The 17-year-old caller: "I was just attacked by dogs and so was my sister. A pit bull."
911 operator: "Do you need an ambulance?"
17-year-old caller: "Yes."
911 operator: "Where are the dogs?"
17-year-old caller: "The house. They're in the house!"
Police arrived minutes later and safely removed the young mother from the house.
"They were able to get the 17-year-old out of a window. They went in to snare the other two dogs but they were too vicious they had to be put down in the home," said Lt. Corrigan O'Donahue.
Officers used a Taser on the other dog, who is being housed at the Oakland County Animal Control Office.
Local 4 spoke with a neighbor who did not want to be identified. The woman said she was leery of the dogs for some time. "They were walking them and they would growl. And I would tell them they had to have them on a leash or I'll call animal control."
The sisters were treated at an area hospital. Police said their injuries are serious but not life-threatening. The infant was not hurt.
The 22-year-old woman and her husband said police used excessive force against the dogs and that they are consulting an attorney and animal rights activists.

WTF excessive force?? Maybe the cops should have just bit the dogs back instead that way it would be more "fair" - after all, we now know that dogs know what fair means

Regarding your post, have you ever watched the show "Detroit Animal Cops"? (have you ever been to a shelter or volunteered at one? (If not, you should.) Every episode does nothing but cover the massive abuse to animals in the Detroit area. The abject poverty is astounding and leads to an inordinate amount of animal abuse not to mention the HUGE population of humans who are training and fighting dogs of multiple breeds every day.

The most obvious question you and your's never ask is about the qualifications of the actual home life for the dogs. These dogs were not what the typical person would call a pet. The owners it seems, almost got what they deserved, albeit a pit bull or Portugeuse Water Dog.

How could you not condemn them when this is in the article. It is a clear example of improper raising by the owners. Any dog allowed to make visual and vocal threats without correction by it's master is not a good citizen and subject to erratic behavior.

The public needs education and training regarding the proper care and raising of all dogs, not just pit bulls. It is the only way these things will change. Some assinine idea of banning the dogs you find scary is never going to solve the problem.

No attack is ever unfounded. You espouse to be a behaviorist. Might I ask you to crawl out of your pre-convictions and spend some time with real trainers and the dogs. You will learn that these situations you spout on about, when people have been killed or injured, are not from a dog just snapping. The facts show dogs react in this manner from neglect, abuse, deliberate training or any one or multiple negative traits delivered by the humans. The simple truth is an adjusted and well raised animal does not snap and kill as described in your pornographic posts and inflammatory articles.
