Montreal hotel recommendations

Have any of you had a good stay at a hotel in Montreal? I've stayed at the Ritz Carlton there before, but I'm looking for something different this time. I'm a hotel snob, need a 4 or 5 star with a king sized bed downtown, close to all the action. I'm going the weekend after Thanksgiving. Heard good things about the Hotel Nelligan and the Fairmont.

Thanks.

The Fairmont is the Queen Elizabeth, isn't it? My wife and I stayed there a few years ago. It is very nice.

There's a really interesting high-end boutique hotel called L'Hotel de la Montagne that I've stayed at in the past. Very cool place that blows the larger hotels away with its style and ambiance. Take a look at the website.

That looks awesome, is it close to Old Montreal attractions, etc?

One place you should llok into is the Loews Hotel Vogue. We've stayed there in the past and the place is really nice and classy. They've also always been great about upgrading and we weven ended up in the Executive Sutie (Normally 1600 CDN a night) for the price fo a regualr room. Right near the Queen Elizabeth.

It's pretty much in the thick of things downtown; a couple of blocks off Sherbrooke St. and a couple of minutes by cab to Old Montreal.

Here's the link to the Montreal Tourism website. Very good and informative.

Ah my favorite city in fact.

One of the best places is called Bonapart. It's located in the Old Montreal district. It also has an award-winning fine restaurant at the bottom.

Also in Old Montreal, there is the SpringHill Suites by Marriott. Both of these hotels offer secluded excellent locations with larger than average rooms, and free excellent buffet-style breakfast.

If you wanna be closer uptown, there is the Mariott on rue Sherbrooke, just east of McGill University.

I would recommend the downtown hotels LAST. Absolutely no charm in them!

Also, if you are looking for one of the best French fien cuisines which offer tremendous steaks, then you should go to Gibby's. It's also in Old Montreal, near the Old Port. Ask any cab driver, they know.

It's starting to get a little cold here JVZ, bring some sweaters! The marriot is a fine hotel as is the queen! I personally would go with the marriot having stayed there last year on new years, big room two floors The hotel de la montagne is very nice place as well, there's a terrace on the roof with a pool and it's right in the heart of downtown one block down from crecsent street (which is where all the partying goes down) and about 5min from the old port and the casino! I could go on writing here but i wont..... if you need any info or help while you're down here let me know i'm always there for a fellow X5World member

Hey you'll be just in time for the fall leaf colors! I'm going there during Thanksgiving weekend (Canadian one, that is).

Gracias for the recommendations fellas, or better yet, merci.

La Montagne and Hotel Nelligan seem to be the front runners, I won't book till next week so I have time to look over the other suggestions in more detail.

I know it'll be COLD up there the weekend of American Thanksgiving, and that rooftop deck at La Montagne closes September through April.
