I am looking for another player but after reading this i can see that i'll be sticking with the iPod or it's cousins the shuffle, Nano, or iPod Mini. Nothing here to get excited about.

I thought that ipod had THE interface, but after using this and the ipod at bestbuy, i can confidently say that creative has done it as well if not better. I don't think that anyone can argue that the ipod has a drawaback in terms of reliability. Second thing is that this player is a bit smaller and has fm tuner. Last but not least, everyone and their mom has an ipod. I'm kind of sick of seeing them everywhere. At this point if got an ipod, the main reason would be because of Denison icelink.

Has anyone tried out the i-River 5GB color? it looks really sleek and nice, and there is one at my local for 200 on sale..I figure it cant hurt, huh?...I think Ill give it a try...

Other than IPod choices should be considered if you don't plan on integrating this MP3 in your BMW. Everything I read here tells me I should get an IPod because of the ease of integration and benefits. If you are worried about reliability, buy it from COSTCO and you have nothing to worry about. Their customer service and return policy should something go wrong is unmatched (A+++++). Trust me, I've been a member for 4 years and have experienced it.

The other one I looked at was the 20gb version of this; I believe the model for both of these is H10. It uses a similar touchstrip to the Creative one, but was either oversensitive or didn't translate into unput when I used it. The navigation was also quite lacking compared to Creative and Apple. The Creative Sleek I mentioned earlier is available online for $224.45

Until I found the Creative, the Costco Ipod route was the one I was planning on taking. One drawback is the price: I'd end up paying $284.99 + $50 membership fee. It ends up being more than a $105 dollars more. I was planning on getting some better earphones ($50-$100), so this is money that could be spent on that. The last significant point is, that while I don't know how the ipod sounds when used in the X5, it doesn't sound nearly as good as the Creative when using earphones.

Question. Did you use the same earphones for both the iPod and the Creative when you did your test? Then to there are other factors that shape the sound of the iPod. For me at least the stock iPod earphones have never fit in my ear in such a way as to give the full potention of the sound they can deliver. I have to hold them in with my fingers then they sound better. I tried other "in ear" earphones and was astonished at the difference. Both were used with my sony earphones. I tried messing with the eq in the ipod.
